At times, students may find they are dealing with a personal crisis that necessitates immediate attention by a mental health professional, including:
UNOH students experiencing a mental health emergency can come to the Counseling Center (Monday – Friday 9 am – 5 pm) to speak with a mental health clinician. During after hours and weekends there is an on-call system. If a student is experiencing an urgent mental health crisis during a time when the Counseling Center is closed, they should call Safety Services (419-998-3167) to complete a brief mental health assessment, and, if determined necessary, speak with the on-call crisis counselor.
If you are concerned that there is an immediate threat to a student’s safety, speak directly about your concerns and request that an officer do a welfare check to make sure the student is safe. Examples of immediate threats: The individual is injured or hurt. The individual has taken too many pills. The individual is threatening to hurt themselves. The individual has a weapon. The individual has threatened or attempted to harm someone else. The individual is suicidal and intoxicated and/or high. The individual cannot commit to keeping themselves safe.
If there is an immediate threat and the student is on campus, call Safety Services 419-998-3167. If there is an immediate threat and the student is off campus, then call 911.
Off Campus Emergency: Call 911 On-Campus Emergency: Call 419-998-3167
If a student displays warning signs and/or long term concerns (i.e., self-injury, disordered eating, chronic depression, increased substance use, etc.) but clearly denies thoughts of harming self and/or others:
