General Information

Students wishing to determine eligibility for Federal Aid, in addition to potential eligibility for state and institutional aid are encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA will determine eligibility for Federal Grants and Loans, State Grants, and the Federal Work Study Program. Outside agencies may also request FAFSA data in determining scholarship eligibility. The FAFSA can be completed each year after October 1 at . The federal school code for UNOH is 004861-00. The priority deadline to complete the FAFSA is April 1 of each year, which allows the 黄瓜精品Office to promptly process your FAFSA data and provide a 黄瓜精品offer before the first term of the year. FAFSA applications received after April 1 may not receive a 黄瓜精品offer in time for the first term of the year, which could result in loss of aid eligibility for the affected term(s). 黄瓜精品Offers are provided within a few weeks after all FAFSA requirements are met.

Student questions regarding financial aid processes and eligibility is most often unique to each student's FAFSA information and circumstances. Please contact the 黄瓜精品Office for any assistance or questions at 419-998-8890 or financialaid@unoh.edu. Office hours are Monday - Friday 7:30 a.m. — 5:00 p.m., with hours until 6 p.m. on the first day of each academic term. You may contact the 黄瓜精品Office to request any disclosed online information via paper copy upon request.

For additional information regarding the 黄瓜精品 which includes but is not limited to enrollment, retention and graduation rates, aid distribution, or cohort default rates, please visit .

Student Eligibility

To qualify for Federal Student Aid students must be accepted for enrollment at an eligible institution for the purpose of obtaining a degree or certificate. Students must have received a high school diploma or other recognized equivalent such as a GED, or a homeschool credential recognized by state law.  A final official high school transcript must be received by the Registrar's office to determine eligibility before financial aid funds can be applied to a student's account.  Students must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress while enrolled as noted below, and enrollment status will affect student eligibility.  Students must be enrolled at least half-time to be eligible for Federal Loans, while Pell grant eligibility will be prorated based on a student's enrollment intensity (number of credit hours enrolled when less-than-full-time).

Available Financial Assistance

Financial Assistance is available at the Federal and State level, including the Federal Work Study program, Scholarship opportunities, and Private Education Loan options. Satisfactory Academic Progress Standards

To be eligible for Title IV funds, state grant funds, and Institutional scholarships, a student must make satisfactory academic progress (SAP). A satisfactory academic progress policy must be reasonable and meet both qualitative and quantitative criteria. The UNOH SAP policy applies equitably (in terms of the qualitative and quantitative standards) for students enrolled in the same program of study who are not receiving Title IV funds as to those who are receiving Title IV funds. In addition, SAP standards apply equally to all students regardless of status or enrollment, (full-time, part time, undergraduate, and graduate students). Progress is reviewed each term for financial aid eligibility. Please see our Satisfactory Academic Progress policy for a complete review.

Student Loan Code of Conduct

The 黄瓜精品 strives to provide students the best financial opportunities, experiences, and customer service. We are committed to providing the most accurate information and resources, and are dedicated to high ethical standards. The University of Northwestern is a Title IV eligible school and participates in Federal and Private Education Loans. To uphold our standards, The 黄瓜精品 has established and follows a Student Loan Code of Conduct as required by HEA Sec 487(a)(25), 487(e), and 34 CFR 601.21.

Verification of FAFSA

To be considered for federal student aid, a student must complete a FAFSA form. The FAFSA collects financial and other student data which is used to calculate the Student Aid Index (SAI) to determine a student's eligibility. Because students sometimes make errors on their application, there is a process for verifying applications and making corrections. Approximately 18% of all applicants are selected for Verification by the Department of Education.

Students are notified of verification selection by both email and letter, with all verification requirement requests available on the UNOH Student Portal at my.unoh.edu. Students will receive up to 5 email notifications and two letter notifications to the student address on file. Subsequent documentation requests may be made dependent on information provided.

  • Email Notifications will direct you to your To-Do List link on the 黄瓜精品Dashboard at my.unoh.edu. This will list all required documents and how to submit them to the 黄瓜精品Office.
  • Letter Notifications will provide all required documentation and how to submit the documents to the 黄瓜精品Office.

It is recommended to have documents submitted as soon as possible, preferably within two to three weeks of notification to allow for prompt processing. If documentation is not submitted in a timely manner, you may not have financial aid eligibility for your terms of attendance. The official Department of Education deadline for 24/25 verification is mid-September or 120 days after the student's last day of attendance both applicable to the academic year.

Your financial aid offer process will not begin if you are selected for verification until the financial aid office receives all requested documentation from you and your parents if you are a dependent student. If corrections are required, they will be sent to the Department of Education. Once processed, the Department of Education will send to the school a correct, verified FAFSA transaction. This transaction is required to provide a 黄瓜精品offer.

If a student is selected for verification on subsequent transaction, and it affects a student's provided financial aid offer, the 黄瓜精品office will revise the student offer in accordance with Federal Aid rules. The revised offer notification will be sent to the student's UNOH email account, directing the student to my.unoh.edu to view their offer under their 黄瓜精品Dashboard.

Professional Judgement

Students whose families experience an involuntary loss of income in calendar year 2024 as compared to 2022 or experience an unusual circumstance may wish to contact a 黄瓜精品Officer for information on how to proceed with a Professional Judgement (PJ) appeal. PJ cases are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and are housed under two different types:

  • Special Circumstances: Involuntary loss if income is classified as a condition outside of person's control. Circumstances such as retirement or termination from employment due to unfavorable conduct would not be considered. Examples of situations that can be considered are:
    • Employment layoff, company downsizing, or reduced workforce hours
    • Substantial medical expenses not covered by insurance that were paid
    • Parent divorce or separation after the FAFSA is filed (for dependent students)
    • Death of a parent after the FAFSA is filed (for dependent students)
    • Loss of child support, alimony, or unemployment
    • A one-time 401(k)/Pension withdrawal (for necessary or emergency purposes)
  • Unusual Circumstances: Conditions for a dependency override due to human trafficking, parental abandonment, parental abuse, or parent imprisonment.

If you feel eligibility may be impacted based on a circumstance please contact our office. Our office will collect information from you to determine if your situation could impact eligibility. If so, documentation will be collected to conduct the review. The type of documentation requested will be dependent on the type of appeal submitted, but could include letters from employers, most recent pay stubs, tax forms, court documentation, police records, a student attestation/interview, etc. If you were selected for verification, this process must be complete before Professional Judgement can begin.

A Special Circumstance review may take three weeks from the time all required documentation is submitted. An Unusual Circumstance review will be finalized within 60 days of the student's enrollment if all required documentation is submitted within this time frame. If a Professional Judgement case is approved, and it affects a student's financial aid offer, the 黄瓜精品office will revise the student offer in accordance with Federal Aid rules. The revised offer notification will be sent to the student's UNOH email account, directing the student to my.unoh.edu to view their offer under their 黄瓜精品Dashboard.

Financial Literacy

The University of Northwestern strives to assist students in making positive financial choices to best achieve their goals.  Each academic program consists of a required First Year Experience course.  This course includes learning modules encompassing how to secure a financially stable future, along with how to set goals, manage time, and creating and maintaining financial budgets.

Students wishing to borrow Federal loans are required to complete and are urged to also complete an each year.  These interactive sessions assist in helping students understand their rights and responsibilities as a loan borrower and how they affect their financial future. Upon graduation or departure from the University, Exit Counseling is required and information on how to complete the counseling is provided to each student.  This will prepare students for their financial obligation and repayment.

Each quarter, a financial literacy tool is provided to the student body to promote financial awareness and well-being via a Campus Update email notification. These tools help to engage students in learning about financial responsibility and provide guidelines on how to establish healthy financial habits.

Prohibition on use of Title IV Funds

Per 34 CFR Part 82, no Federal appropriated funds have been paid or will be paid to any person for influencing or attempting to influence an officer or employee of any agency, a Member of Congress, an officer or employee of Congress, or an employee of a Member of Congress in connection with the making of any Federal grant, the entering into of any cooperative agreement, and the extension, continuation, renewal, amendment, or modification of any Federal grant or cooperative agreement. FSA funds may not be used to hire a registered lobbyist or pay any person or entity for securing an earmark.  Administrative Cost Allowance funds may not be used to pay membership dues for professional associations.

Withdrawal Procedures, Refunds, and Return of Aid

Students who wish to withdraw from the University must contact the Registrar’s Office in the 200 Student Services building or email advisor@unoh.edu.  Please review the below pages of the UNOH Catalog for the following information:

  • Please review the withdrawal process policy on page 76.
  • Military Students can reference additional Military Withdrawal Policies on page 29.
  • Please review the Withdrawal and Refund Policy on pages 33 - 35

Return of Title IV Policy

The 黄瓜精品 adheres to the federal policy for the return of Title IV funding. The Higher Education Amendments of 1998 (HEA98) represent the requirements in the Return of Title IV Federal 黄瓜精品when a student withdraws from the University. This policy governs all federal grant and loan programs (as listed below), but does not include the Federal Work-Study Program.

Federal law requires that a student earn his/her federal financial aid funds in proportion to the number of days in the term prior to the student’s complete withdrawal. The portion of the federal grants and loans to which the student is entitled to receive or has earned is calculated on a percentage basis by comparing the total number of days in the term to the number of days that the student completed before he/she withdrew. For example, if a student completes 40% of the term, he/she earns 40% of the approved federal aid that he/she was originally scheduled to receive for the term. This means that 60% of the student’s scheduled or disbursed federal aid remains unearned and must be returned to the federal program(s). Once the student completes 60% of the term, he/she has earned 100% of his/ her financial aid. Thus, no financial aid will be returned.

The refund percentage is determined by dividing the number of days the student attended in the quarter/session by the number of days in the quarter/session.

This calculation may result in the student’s overpayment in one or more of the Title IV programs. Students in an overpayment situation will be responsible to the school to make restitution for the overpayment. In accordance with the federal policy, unearned aid will be returned in the following order.

  1. Unsubsidized Federal Direct Loan
  2. Subsidized Federal Direct Loan
  3. Federal Direct PLUS Loan for Undergraduate Student
  4. PELL Grant
  5. Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant, for which a return of Title IV funds is required
  6. FSEOG, for which a return of Title IV is required
  7. Other Title IV Programs (except for Federal Work-Study)

For example, an undergraduate student attends Winter Quarter in the College of Business and withdraws on the 29th day of the quarter.  The Quarter is 73 days long resulting in the student completing 39.7% of the term (29 / 73).  The unearned percentage of aid is 60.3% (100% - 39.7%). Any Federal Aid awarded to the student will be returned to the Department of Education in the amount of 60.3% in the order stated above.  For this example, a student received $716 Pell, $1155 Subsidized Loan, and $660 Unsubsidized Loan for a total of $2531.  $2531 x 60.3% = $1526.19 that must be returned in the following order:

$660 Unsubsidized Loan
$866 Subsidized Loan
$1526 Total Return

The student can retain their remaining aid eligibility on their account.  Standard rounding applies.

This policy does not affect the student’s charges. The University’s withdrawal policy will be used to determine the reduction, if any, in the student’s tuition and/or room and board charges. The student is responsible for paying any outstanding charges to the University.

The University will document the official withdrawal date as the date the Registrar’s Office receives either verbal or written notification from the student.

For students who do not contact the Registrar’s Office to withdraw, an unofficial withdrawal date will be the date the Registrar is notified by the instructor that the student is no longer attending classes. Unofficial withdrawals may have a greater adverse effect on financial aid and/or tuition costs than the official withdrawal.

Students who withdraw from classes during the refund period are subject to repaying a percentage of their grants and student loans in accordance with Federal Law and the 黄瓜精品’s refund procedures.

The University and the student are both responsible for returning unearned Federal financial aid to the Federal government. The institution must return the amount of the refund allocated to the appropriate Federal Title IV program accounts within 45 days of the date the institution records the student as officially withdrawing, or unofficially withdrawing, suspended, or failing to return after a leave of absence.

If a student does not pay funds due to the College to cover a balance that resulted after the College returned their unearned portion of the Federal funds, the student will be placed on financial hold. This means the student will not be permitted to register for classes (or, in some cases, remain enrolled) until the balance is paid in full.

In some cases, after a student withdraws, additional Federal funds can be disbursed. This is called a “post-withdrawal disbursement.” Federal grants will automatically be applied towards the student’s account within 45 days of determining that the student withdrew. Federal Direct Loans must be accepted within 14 days of the notice; otherwise, the loan funds will be canceled. If the Federal Direct Loan post-withdrawal disbursement offer is accepted by the deadline, the 黄瓜精品Office will make the disbursement within 180 days of determining that the student withdrew.

All information is subject to change based on changes to Federal law, regulation, or University policy and procedures. If changes are made in these areas, students must abide by the new policy.

Billing and 黄瓜精品Disbursements

Prior to each term, billing notifications are sent to students.  The notification is received by email notification from the Business Office to a student’s UNOH email account. The notification will direct the student to view their Account Statement available at my.unoh.edu under “Financial Information”.  They can view their statement under Account Activity, which will provide a detailed view of their charges less payments and financial aid.  This will provide the student account balance, which will either be an amount to pay or a credit depending on financial aid or other financial arrangements.  Full account balances must be paid, or a payment arrangement must be made with the Business Office by the first day of each term. A $25 payment plan fee is assessed for the College of Applied Technologies, and a $50 payment plan fee is assessed for the Colleges of Business, Occupational Professions, and Health Professions.  Failure to make payment may result in a late fee and the inability to schedule for future terms.

Billing Notifications are provided to students approximately:

College of Applied Technologies:

Three weeks prior to first day of term

Colleges of Business, Occupational Professions, Health Professions, and Master of Business Administration:

Four weeks prior to first day of term

Accepted and complete financial aid will be presented on Account Activity as “Financial Aid” under the category “Anticipated”.  Funds will remain in an Anticipated status until disbursement.  Disbursement of funds occurs each term.  Disbursements are scheduled after the term census date, which for the College of Applied Technologies is the 7th business day of the term and for the Colleges of Business, Occupational Professions, Health Professions, and Master of Business Administration is the 12th business day of the term. First time Federal Student Loan borrowers are subject to a 30-day enrollment period for their first term of attendance, and as a result the first disbursement for these students will be at least 30 days after the start of the term. Disbursements are made directly to the student’s account.

Account balances may be paid online at my.unoh.edu under “View Account & Make Payments”.  In the event my.unoh.edu cannot be accessed, payments can be made at /pay/ with the student full name and correct student ID.  Credit Card fees will apply. For more information on billing or account statements, please contact the Business Office at 419-998-3156 or businessoffice@unoh.edu.

Books and Supplies

Students who have financial aid secured for all institutional charges by term and have a credit available for books may charge their books at the UNOH Barnes & Noble Book Store.  Students who opt to charge books using the established method authorizes the use of FSA funds for the purchased books.  Charging books at Barnes & Noble at UNOH is not required, and students can opt to purchase books by any method or venue desired; however, Title IV aid cannot be used for book purchases outside of the UNOH Barnes & Noble Book Store prior to disbursement.

In order to purchase books with a financial aid credit, students can charge their books in store or online using their student ID and information.  The bookstore charge is then provided to the Business Office and the charge is added to the student’s account for the applicable term. Per 34 CFR 668.164(m) students must be able to purchase books by the 7th day of the term using FSA funds if a credit for books is available. Students are able to charge books beginning the week before class through the second week of the term.  The deadline date for purchasing books is available via a UNOH Important Dates publishing, provided each term by way of a Campus Updates email each Monday.

For more information on book purchases, please contact .
