A Legal Assistant is an essential component of any attorney's practice and are actively involved in any court case from initial contact with the client all the way through the trial. Attorneys cannot perform their duties without the help of their legal assistant.

When people think of a career in law, they often picture lawyers and judges, but in reality, legal assistants make up a significant sector of careers in the law field, assisting attorneys every step of the way. Employment for Legal Assistants is projected to grow 14% through the year 2026 producing 41,800 new jobs in the field.**

Legal Assisting classes at UNOH are taught by practicing attorneys who relate real life examples to the rules of law. As part of your coursework you will attend criminal court to participate in legal hearings and visit the law library to gain an understanding of the legal research process.

Private law firms are the largest employers of legal assistants. In an effort to reduce costs and increase the availability of legal services, many employers are hiring legal assistants to perform tasks which were formerly done by lawyers. Other organizations who hire UNOH graduates are corporate legal departments, insurance companies, real estate and title insurance firms, federal and local governments, and banks.

The importance of the legal assistant is reflected in their annual earnings. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual salary for Legal assistants is $50,940.**
